UK residents need a E111 form from the UK and submit it back if health care is required during you stay in the Algarve or Portugal.
As with all the Portuguese residents, you are readily offered basic health care, including prescribed medication for free or with a very low symbolic fee.
Non essential medication is not free but it may be government subsidized and with a reduced cost.
Pharmacies are run by dispensing chemists that can offer you basic health advice.
For the most part when you walk into a pharmacy, look and pick a number from the dispenser and check the screens for your turn to be served.
